Why is it important to have a training program as an athlete?

The significance of training, in addition to its many advantages – Every professional athlete’s daily routines ought to include training, since it is of the utmost significance and should be an intrinsic element of their routines. Through regular exercise, a person may progressively increase their strength and endurance, as well as their skill level, as well as their motivation, ambition, and self-assurance.

  • Athletes are able to get more information about their sport via training, and they are also able to learn about the necessity of maintaining a healthy mind and body through training;
  • In terms of the impact that training has on the body, consistent physical activity raises muscle tone, promotes healthy circulation, boosts strength, agility, and flexibility, and accelerates the pace at which waste products are eliminated;

The body is better equipped to deal with the rigors of training and becomes more resistant to injury and sickness as a result of consistent training, which speeds up the recovery period following physical activity. The ability to concentrate better and have a higher opinion of oneself are both benefits that training brings to mental health.

Why is self care important for athletes?

One morning, a friend of mine gave me a call to verify that we were going to go for a run together as planned. She ‘ s the mother of three children who were giving her a hard time that day. She remarked, “It’s not quite nine in the morning, and my patience cup is empty.” After our run, she informed us, “OK, it’s full again.” Afterwards, we went for our run.

If you were to put your flexibility to adjust to new circumstances into a cup, it would be comparable to the patience cup that my buddy uses. Simply put, tension is stress. There are various situations that might cause us to feel stressed, such as when we are unwell, have to interact with tough people, train, or compete.

A chemical and hormonal process takes place in both our brain and our body, which assists in the maintenance of our health and our capacity to respond to both physical and mental stress. This stress reaction enables us to adjust to training stresses, which are beneficial since they stretch our capabilities beyond what we are currently capable of and help us develop.

However, if we are faced with an excessive amount of difficulty without receiving an adequate amount of relief, we will not grow. People are prone to experiencing burnout, injuries, and lackluster performances from time to time.

Unfortuitously, there is a limit to the amount of stress that our bodies can withstand, and we need to rest in order to have our reserves replenished. If you consistently make sound decisions, you won’t ever run out of room in your training and adaptation cup.

  • This is one of the most exciting aspects of the situation;
  • There is more to staying strong than just turning up for strenuous workouts or preparing for endurance events like triathlons or marathons;
  • It’s not only about getting out there and working hard or going for a large distance;

The more we push ourselves, the greater the likelihood that we may suffer an accident or become exhausted, and vice versa. You may improve your speed or endurance without inflicting unnecessary pain on yourself or running the danger of injury, which would otherwise hamper your training and prevent you from developing further.

  • You will be able to maintain that sense of equilibrium in your cup if you practice excellent self-care;
  • Sometimes you’ll be able to take it to the very limit, while other times you’ll need to make sure it stays as full as possible;

You may obtain the advantage of adjusting to your training and the capacity to train more often if you practice excellent self-care. This, in turn, leads to improvements and, most importantly, to athletics that are both pleasant and healthy. Here are nine different ways athletes may take care of themselves.
Get between seven and nine hours of sleep each night. The recommended amount of sleep each night is between seven and nine hours, with no less than seven and no more than nine. This is not supposed to be a celebratory dinner for the amount of calories you have burned off in your workout. Because of all the effort you have asked your body to undertake, this meal is intended to be restorative for your system.

Protein and carbs have to both be present in this meal or beverage. Set aside at least one day every week when you won’t be participating in any organized activities. How has sport influenced your life?

I intended to write something for International Women’s Day on the ways in which sports have influenced my life, but before I do that, I should probably introduce myself. My name is ine, and just like you, I juggle a variety of responsibilities during the course of my life.

  1. At work I am a project lead, but when I am at home I am a daughter, a sister, and an aunt;
  2. I am an outgoing person who loves to talk to people at parties but prefers to sing at weddings;
  3. When it comes to competition, though, I am self-assured and I am true to who I am;

As a friend, I am a guidance counselor and a storyteller. Have you noticed how I slightly altered the way I expressed my sporting role? The thing is, there is a rationale to this. When I sat down to explain how I feel about sports, the first thing that came to my mind was not an adjective.

I was considering my emotions at the time. Since the very first time I ever picked up a football, when I was 7 years old, these emotions have always been a part of who I am. You know, asking me how playing sports has influenced my life is like to asking me how having brown eyes has impacted my life since the two are completely unrelated.

Both have been there for as long as I can remember, and if I did not have them, my perspective on the world would be extremely warped. I believe that my participation in athletics has helped me develop a more mature outlook on life and has contributed significantly to the formation of the person that I have become.

My participation in sports has helped me become more self-assured and has improved my communication skills. It has not only boosted my confidence but also provided me with a goal to work for. Despite the fact that I was unaware of it at the time, it has taught me to appreciate not just the wins but also the defeats.

Because of it, I’ve been able to form some very incredible friendships. It has not only equipped me with the inner fortitude and resiliency to triumph over any challenge, but more importantly, it has given me the sense that I am in control of my own destiny.

When I step onto that field in the hail, sleet, or snow, it doesn’t matter what kind of day I’ve just had because now my problems are replaced with a completely different set of problems such as the next pass, stopping my marker, or being able to say that I gave it my all.

When I step onto that field in the hail, sleet, or snow, it doesn’t matter what kind of day I’ve just had because now my problems are replaced with a completely When I am able to mentally “turn up,” which is not always an easy task for me, however, everything else falls into place.

Despite the fact that my demeanor suggests the complete opposite, my state of mind is calm. I can state with complete sincerity that I have never once regretted going to a training session; regardless of how poor or good my performance was, the fact that I showed up at all is what matters most.

The only missed training sessions that I’ve ever regretted are the ones that I didn’t show up for, and to me, that alone says a lot. I’d want to take you back to February 7, 2012, or as my mother likes to call it, “the day ine lost her shit.” I’d like to share with you what happened on that day.

  1. After six years of consistently starting every game, the night before the Senior Cup in hockey, I was taken by surprise when I was told that I would not be on the starting panel (and winning);
  2. When I was at a loss for words on that particular evening, I let my frustration be known by hurling my hockey stick against a neighboring wall;

Unnecessary? You are correct, but try saying that to someone who is 17 years old and has no prior knowledge of the definition of the word “sub.” I was unable to even bring myself to attend to school the following day because I had completely broken down emotionally.

For the next several weeks, the statement “Sure Brian O’Driscoll didn’t even start Junior Cup Rugby” would be a sentence that would keep playing through my head. It was the first time I had ever experienced disappointment on this scale, and to say that it was just what I needed would be an understatement.

But this happens, our minds trick us into believing that we have been buried, when in reality, we have been planted. As a result, I would like to think that as a consequence of this experience I developed roots that would be far more robust than any storm that was yet to come in my career as an athlete.

Because something strange occurred to me after I was cut from the team: I not only got over the disappointment, but I also became more resilient and realized that I was in fact overly committed in the sport and that my viewpoint was off.

Not only did it educate me to be resilient, but it also made me more compassionate towards other people, the human part of sport, and even the occasionally brutal aspect of sport. Being on a team with both men and women has given me new perspectives and shown me that equality in athletics is not an impossibility.

Participating in a squad that includes members of both sexes provides a whole new facet to the playing field. In spite of the fact that males could be more powerful physically, I’ve seen that women have a tendency to think more and act differently, both of which are equally significant.

When I play on mixed teams, I try to focus less on what my gender can offer to the team and more on what I can provide to the team as an individual. This helps me maintain a sense of equality when I’m competing. Mixed equalises me. As a woman competing in a sport that is gaining popularity and living in a county with a population even lower than that of a small town, this frequently requires me to buck up and compete with the men’s teams.

  1. This mental struggle has always been one of my favorites because, in their heads, they’re constantly thinking, “Oh crap, there’s no way a lady can defeat me,” and when they finally start to believe it, I always feel like I’ve already won the war;

Isn’t that the case? For me, it’s a case of “nothing to lose and everything to prove,” and if anything, it really compels me to play with even more vigor and self-assurance since I have nothing to lose and everything to demonstrate. Therefore, if I am defeated by a male, at least I can say that I gave it my all, and if on the other hand I am victorious over a boy, then those emotions of empowerment will immediately return, exactly like clockwork.

It is something that I feel very passionately about, which is why I am so enthusiastic about the 2020 initiative, which aims to bring about a cultural transformation in how we view girls and women participating in sports.

If you had asked me when I was younger who my athletic idols were, I would have responded Paul O’Connell, Ciarán Carey, or Henry Shefflin. However, if you were to ask me that question now, you would have a very different response from me. Sarah Carey, who is the daughter of Limerick hurling hero Ciarán Carey, has been creating headlines of her own own in recent years.

In point of fact, Sarah Carey has been generating headlines on her own. Sarah served as the captain of the Limerick Senior Ladies Camogie team from 2015 to 2018, and she returned to the field less than three weeks after giving birth to lead Granagh to victory in the county final against Ahane.

Another one of my athletic heroes is Róisn Upton, who hails from Limerick and plays hockey for Ireland at the international level. She won a silver medal at the 2018 world cup. From the very first day we started playing football together all the way up to the day we won the senior cup in hockey, I had the privilege of growing up and playing with Róisn.

Róisn continues to be a role model for young girls all over the nation, and if anything, she has given me optimism that the future of women’s sport in Ireland is just just getting started. Róisn continues to inspire young girls all over the country.

I am aware that I have only mentioned two different people, but the truth is that I could continue on for days; this is something that I would not have been able to say of myself even two years ago. Our moment in history is finally going to arrive, and frankly, it’s high time for it to happen, don’t you agree? So here’s to the women who compete in sports—may we know them, may we be them, and may we help to raise them!.
